Working at heights on scaffolding while the building is still operating presents a series of challenges. It is essential to provide safe and practical access for workers at heights, while the general public still have easy access and safe conditions at ground level. Depending on the building structure and street conditions, this can be a logistical and design challenge for many companies.

The presence of a physical barrier such as lack of space, building complexity during rehabilitation or high risk to pedestrians on the street can make it difficult to achieve safe scaffolding conditions.

Recently the lead contractor for a replacement cladding project on the Eveleigh Channel 7 Building was faced with such a scenario and recognised the gravity the site conditions posed. Reaching out to market-leading scaffolding company, GM Scaffolding, they were presented with Proscaf as a solution.

Proscaf is a versatile, all-in-one scaffolding system. That means all manner of structures like cantilevers, bridging and propping scaffolds can be erected without the use of additional non-system parts. With the client impressed by the capabilities of Proscaf in the hands of GM Scaffolding, they were awarded the contract to commence work.

To provided uninhibited, full level access for workers, GM Scaffolding erected a cantilevered and bridging scaffold, while minimising the amount of scaffold at ground level. The scaffold installed functioned as a height access solution, cantilevered work platform (birdcage), and a landing platform for additional swing stages to be later installed on the building.

As a cantilevered structure, the scaffold minimised material and ensured clear access for pedestrians below, whilst providing the required large working platform at full height.  Achieved through the system’s high load bearing braces (and other specialised components), Proscaf provided personnel on site with a safe and practical working environment for the entire duration of the recladding project.

Proscaf proved to be an invaluable scaffolding solution for the GM Scaffolding team, as they were able to overcome onsite challenges, provided full level access for workers, and minimised the amount of scaffold at ground level. Without sacrificing safety for workers and pedestrians alike.
